Head Coach Christian D'Ambrosio

Christian D'Ambrosio
Head Coach

Since signing on as the fourth permanent head coach in program history in 2000,  D’Ambrosio has provided the program with a consistency which has resulted in 15 winning records and 14 seasons of ten or more wins in the last 15 years, and eight post-season appearances.

D’Ambrosio is now in his 19th season with the program, the last 15 as head coach.  Under D’Ambrosio, the Warriors  have claimed outright or shared six Little East Conference regular season titles, captured four LEC playoff titles, qualified for five NCAA and three ECAC tournaments, and have recorded a winning percentage over 65 percent. The winning percentage and wins per season (11.9) are the highest among the five head coaches in the program’s 30-year history.

In 2015, D'Ambrosio directed the Warriors to their first perfect (7-0-0) LEC regular season and third unbeaten one in 26 years of LEC regular-season play. For that, he was named LEC Coach-of-the-Year for the third time (second time in six years).

Prior to D’Ambrosio’s arrival, Eastern was 26-23 in the first ten seasons of LEC regular-season competition. Since then, the Warriors are 86-20-6 (79.5) in regular-season conference play, having lost more than one regular-season conference match only three times in the last 15 years and compiling the best regular-season winning percentage and most wins during that span of any LEC program.

In the last 13 years, Eastern has advanced to the LEC tournament championship match eight times, winning four. No team has advanced to the final more times in that span.  As the No. 5 seed in 2013, Eastern upset two higher-seeded teams on the road -- including top-ranked UMass Boston -- en route to reaching the title game once again.

D’Ambrosio has coached well over half of the matches in program history and is credited with over 60 percent of the program's wins. His overall winning percentage of .653 and 191 victories are the best and most, respectively, of all coaches in the program’s history.  In mid-October of 2013, D'Ambrosio coached the 500th match in program history and with nine more victories, will attain 200 in his Eastern career. He has already won more matches than any Eastern coach in the history of the men's or women's programs and his 12th match of 2016 will have coached more matches than any other individual in men's or women's soccer history at Eastern.

Under the 2010 NSCAA New England Region and Little East Conference Coach-of-the-Year, Eastern has been listed in the New England Top Ten poll a total of 66 times, including all 10 weeks in 2010 and a program-best No. 1 for four straight weeks from mid-October through early November that season.

The 2010 season also saw the Warriors spend a program-best six weeks ranked in the national rankings, when they rose as high as No. 8, following a 15-0-3 start, on November 2 on the way to an unbeaten season through the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament.

Into 2016, D’Ambrosio brings 36 years of coaching experience with men and women on the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. For his contributions to girls’ and women’s youth soccer in Connecticut, D’Ambrosio was inducted into the Connecticut Girls’ Soccer Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame on Jan. 10, 2010.

D’Ambrosio is a 1985 graduate of Saint Thomas University (FL), where he received a B.A. Degree in Sports Administration He holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma  and NSCAA Goalkeeping I Diploma.

D’Ambrosio and his wife, Gina, reside in Andover with their sons Cooper  – a three-year member of the Eastern men's soccer program (two-time LEC Defensive Player-of-the-Year) and current graduate student soccer player at Division I Central Connecticut State University -- and Carson -- a junior goalkeeper at Central.
